Shake-up your SUBWAY TILE!

Shake-up your Subway Tile!

Subway tiles do not need to be 'boring'!
Here we will show you how you can shake-up your design while still using this classic tile shape.

There is such a large variety in wall tile options now that we understand it can be difficult to narrow down your search.  And sometimes when it comes to your overall design and tying everything together, we know subway tile can often be the best option for a simple, sleek finished product. If the simple look of subway tile isn't exactly what you are going for, but you still love the look and shape of the tile overall, take a look at some different ideas you can use to create a feature with this product.

And the best part is ... subway tile can often be one of your more economical options!

How fun are some of these subway tile stripes? The possibilities are ENDLESS! We love the look of doing a colourful subway tile mixed with a white or neutral. What a great way to add an element of fun or excitement to a child's washroom, or perhaps to brighten up your time spent in a laundry room or

powder room? Or on the other end of the spectrum how about the powerful eye-catching look of black and white?  It is always a classic and can really make a room feel elegant.  This look can vary from one tile wide striping, to much larger bands.

Here a large band in a different colour has been used to create an accent in the shower.

In this space black and white subway tiles are taken to a whole new level! The diagonal installation creates a unique space that is sure to drop-jaws!

A simple change to the above design ideas would be to run your stripe vertically instead of horizontally. Yep - it really can be that easy!

In the last few years we have seen "ombre" being introduced in fashion, home decor and of course tile trends. This look can be unique and create a more eye-catching installation than your basic subway tile or striping.

This look is more so related to the colour choices of your tile instead of the lay-out. It can be seen in stripes, herringbone patterns and more!

Ombré (literally "shaded" in French) is the gradual blending of one color hue to another, usually moving tints and shades from light to dark.  (Source: Wikipedia)

Another popular pattern that we are seeing in subway tile installations is the herringbone pattern. This pattern is a great way to elevate a simple rectangular subway tile into a more unique design.

A nice way to emphasize this pattern is by using a contrasting grout, or again various colours at once!

Herringbone: describes a distinctive V-shaped weaving pattern usually found in twill fabric. It is distinguished from a plain chevron by the break at reversal, which makes it resemble a broken zigzag. The pattern is called herringbone because it resembles the skeleton of a herring fish. As you can see the possibilities of subway tile installations are infinite... let your design sense lead you in your own direction, and have fun with it!
