4 FLOORING TRENDS

THAT ARE HERE TO STAY

Tiles have been continuing to get larger, seeing popularity in 12”x24” sizes and up! We are currently showing large tiles in 12”x24”, 24”x24”, 18”x36” and more!

Contrary to what many people think, even in a small space a large tile can actually help your space look larger! Because you will have fewer grout joints it will create a cleaner, more subtle look which won’t distract the eye!

A lot of customers come into our showroom wanting a polished tile but are afraid that it may be too slippery for their home - which is where lappato finish comes in! Lappato is an Italian word referring to semi-polished tile. Although the overall finish can vary as some lappato finish tiles are textured and some are not, the overall idea is the same – a tile combining both a polished and matte finish! We have continued to see more tiles coming into our showroom with this finish, and more and more customers are loving this trend for their home. You get the clean, high-end look of polished tile, with the slip resistance of matte tile. It is the best of both worlds!

In general we have been seeing a rise in customer’s interest of carpet for their home or office. The durability and comfort of carpet make it a great flooring choice. The carpet trend we are seeing most is the mix of a cut pile and loop. There are many carpets available with this blend, which can be used to create beautiful patterns that are tone on tone, or a mix of colours. The mix of the two carpet techniques also combines some of the best features from each carpet type! A cut and loop carpet has the comfort of a cut pile carpet, it isn’t as stiff or hard as a loop (berber) carpet can sometimes be. Although, it does have the benefit of hiding imperfections and traffic lines more easily than a simple cut pile carpet might.

I think we can all agree that wood is a timeless look, that will never go out of style! Wood continues to be a popular choice for residential and commercial applications – only in materials that are not actually wood. Wood-look porcelain tiles have been popular for quite a while, but now we are also seeing an increase in luxury vinyl plank, vinyl sheet and laminate. The durability of these products allow for the use of this look virtually anywhere! We have a HUGE selection of wood-look products, whether you prefer a rustic look or a more polished look!

We all know trends aren’t here forever, but I don’t see these 4 trends going anywhere soon! Trends today combine both aesthetics AND functionality. Customers want floor and wall coverings that are going to last, and something they aren’t going to grow tired of quickly. If you are stuck on which trends or style you would like to use in your space, stop by our showroom and we can help!
